Cosmetic Acupuncture is probably one of the less known applications of acupuncture in the western culture, although it has been widely used in China for thousands of years. It is based on the principles of Chinese Medical Cosmetology.
It is an effective, painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of aging on the face while improving health and energy in the entire body.
It is also known as
TCM COSMETIC (constitutional) ACUPUNCTURE
With aging the quantity of nourishing Qi and blood supply to the skin and to the underlying facial tissues and muscles slowly begin to decrease. The result is lower support, less moisture, an unhealthy looking, sagging skin with wrinkles and discolorations. (Aging spots are coming from internal organ disturbances, usually liver.) Following Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts, we can influence the flow of energy (Qi) in the face and also in the whole body by needling selected face, certain body, and ear points, reversing fundamental constitutional imbalances, increasing circulation, Qi, blood and lymph throughout the whole body, and strengthening the immune system.
The changes will not be as quick and dramatic as after a plastic surgical face-lift for example as new collagen and elastin take time to build up, but over the course of a couple of weeks, after a series of treatments, your friends, family and colleagues will be starting complementing on you and asking about your secret.
The face has more muscles than any other part of the body with the unique feature that these muscles are directly inserting into the skin, meaning there is no fascia coverage over theseso-called plastic muscles.
Because the face holds a high number of local acupuncture points, these points can be needled to cause sedation (muscle relaxation for deep wrinkles) or tonification (tonifying subcutaneous tissues for eliminating superficial skin wrinkles).

Additional points on the face can be piquered as needed, such as inserting needles at the neuromuscular junctions or inserting tiny, intradermal needles under superficial skin wrinkles.
It is very important to emphasize that in conjunction with the face, also body (usually extremity) points, holding attributes to the face, can be needled.
At your first initial visits your face might not be needled at all, as the focus will be on body treatments to solve underlying constitutional problems that obviously affect your complexion and radiance. Hence we call the procedure Constitutional Cosmetic Acupuncture, so you`llbecome healthier as a “side effect” of the treatments beside looking younger, more vibrant, and beautiful.
At your first visit we`ll explore your overall medical history, discuss the physical and emotional issues that might influence your well-being and general appearance, and evaluate you from an Eastern standpoint to reveal any potential disharmony, underlying disturbances that might inversely affect your general health.
In other words at the your first visits we do not necessarily focus on the face, yet, but correct the underlying disharmonies with body, auricular, even scalp needles. Every treatment is individualized.
Initially the focus is on diagnosing and treating the underlying “pattern of disharmony” and energizing the body overall, with a shift to more local (facial) treatments at the subsequent visits. This is not to say that you will not receive extremity needles in conjunction with the face points at the later appointments.
After removing the face needles, we`ll be finishing up with Jade massage.
The established sessions (not your very first visit that might take longer) lasts approximately an hour, 20-30 minutes relaxation with the needles in place, followed by the massage.
Usually no side effects but very minimal (this is beneficial) bruising might occur with the inserted intradermal needles as the goal is causing ‘micro-trauma” intradermally to enhancefibroblast migration to the area repairing the “damage” with enhanced collagen production.
FREQUENCY Keeping in mind that every person is different, the number of treatments in a sequence is usually 8-10, usually one treatment a week, or two times a week.
Excellent and “visible” results can be expected after the 6th - 8th session (four weeks), which is the time of new collagen production.
Some give 20 treatments but in my experience fewer, a sequence of (usually) ten treatments will give amazing, visible, long lasting ( 2-3 years) results.
Monthly, later quarterly maintenance sessions can be incorporated, as individually needed.
